If you walked through parts of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle—pick your ultra-blue city—would you guess that you were in the richest society ever to exist?
"Civil liberties matter…" - thank you; and the folks that heroically point this out on online debates somehow think they are the first to realize it, when all this comes up.

Many localities still have nothing like an AOT program. It was approved in Santa Clara County, CA several years ago. I don't know how effective the program is but it's on the books. I still saw many quite a few street people suffering when I lived there.
The institutions that allowed themselves to be side-stepped by the govt are the very ones falling apart. If we lose the things that held families together-religion & social norms- then the network for solving this isn’t there.

California is what you get when drugs and even marijuana are tolerated and even condoned. Democrat prosecutors at the behest of Soros are letting every criminal go free with no consequences. I don't know what they expected would happen when the incentives to commit crimes are not aligned with doing the right thing. We need to start throwing drug abusers in jail. We were much better off when we did so
