They did the research. They see through the lies and myths of those who twist history and facts to suit false narratives.

Thomas Sowell built his entire career on telling white conservatives exactly what they wanted to hear about Black people, and they rewarded him handsomely for it. He took the access and opportunities that came from affirmative action and the very programs he now condemns, used them to climb into elite white institutions, and then spent decades pulling the ladder up behind him so fewer people who look like him could follow. His work relies on cherry-picked data and twisted narratives that reinforce racist stereotypes about Black culture, poverty, and achievement, all wrapped in the language of academic rigor to make it sound legitimate rather than like the betrayal it actually is.
White conservatives keep Sowell on a pedestal because he gives them permission to believe what they already wanted to believe. They can point to him and say "see, even this Black intellectual agrees with us," using his skin color as a shield against accusations of racism while ignoring that his entire public identity depends on being the one Black man willing to say what they want said. He is not a truth teller. He is a sellout who traded solidarity for proximity to power, and the fact that he is genuinely intelligent only makes the betrayal more complete.
