Martin Gurri Explains The Rise Of Mass Protest Movements

Written by Dad Saves America | May 13, 2022 1:00:00 AM

Why does the country seem to erupt into new mass protests every few months? Is it all connected or just a coincidence?

In this full episode of Dad Saves America, John sits down with fellow dad Martin Gurri, an author and former CIA media analyst. His three decades of experience in the CIA led him to ask these very questions, culminating with his 2014 book, The Revolt of the Public.

Martin believes that we can start to wrap our minds around the crisis of authority and the increasingly volatile cycles of chaotic, and often violent, protests by examining the profile of the typical protestor.

Disenchanted and well-educated young people have been overwhelmed by the information tsunami from a young age. Even though they disagree on many of the details, most share a distrust of traditional institutions and media outlets. This has generated, in Martin’s words, a “public,” or a distinct class of citizens pointing the finger at a vaguely-defined, shared adversary, and this “public” is in revolt.

Join John and Martin as they work to make sense of our chaotic moment in history.
