Lenore Skenazy was just your average New York City mom, until her nine-year-old convinced her to let him ride the subway alone. Then her life became a living nightmare when he was kidnapped and murdered!

...At least that’s the imagery the media wanted to push. In reality, little Izzy was fine time and time again, riding on the subway and exploring the city without parental supervision. As a result, Lenore has become an advocate for “free range parenting” — the philosophy of giving kids freedom to explore and learn without constant oversight and control from parents. She is currently the president of Let Grow, an organization promoting childhood independence and resilience.

In her interview she covered many topics, from how being a kid has changed since she was young, to the myth of “stranger danger.” She argues if children never experience frustration, fear, and risk, they will have no idea how to deal with it when it inevitably arises in their adult lives.
