It's telling when Leland Vittert's recent memoir "Born Lucky" talks of his dad's approach to training him despite his autism to be capable in the world. His dad's mission was to adapt his son to the world, not the other way around which I think so many modern moms do b/c of the advice of "parenting experts".
I have yet to read a memoir that talks of their success because of their helicopter/snowplow/gentle mother.
