Writing as a Canadian, I can fully confirm everything John wrote. I have yet to come across a fellow Canadian that does NOT know someone (or a friend of a friend) who died through MAiD. And, very few will criticize it. They perform some exceptional mental gymnastics to normalize it.
And, sadly, I think the following is a part of that psychology; in 2017, some academics published a paper speculating the government could potentially save $100 million yearly. In 2020, a Federal gov't thinktank stated MAiD would cut healthcare costs by over $66 million. Given how deaths from MAiD have risen since 2020, I would say the $100 million figure is more accurate.

Thanks John, for a wonderful, timely essay! I wish my adult kids would read this. I’ll share it with them and take a chance!
